Course syllabus
Welcome to Sustainable Heating Technologies at Dalarna University!
This is the first time the course is being offered. It is an updated and expanded version of the previous course, Solar Thermal Energy EG3007, with a broader focus on sustainable heating technologies and their applications. In addition to solar thermal energy, we will explore heat pumps, thermal energy storage. Then the course in the next period on design will deal with integration into heating systems for buildings, district heating, and industrial processes.
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, real-world examples, and group discussions.
Zoom will be used for online teaching and course activities. All the lectures will be held on campus, and on samtal 242 (link https://du-se.zoom.us/my/samtal242)
What will you learn?
During this course, you will explore:
-
Heating loads: Calculation and analysis of space heating, domestic hot water, district heating, and industrial process heat demand.
-
Heating technologies: Fundamental principles and performance of solar thermal collectors, heat pumps, and other sustainable heating technologies.
-
Thermal energy storage: Different storage technologies, operating principles, and applications.
-
Heating systems: Basic system configurations, hydraulic components, and integration of different heating technologies.
How will you learn?
The course includes lectures, lab, exercises, group assignments, and student presentations. Please refer to the course schedule on time edit for an overview of lectures, exercises, assignments, and important dates. Zoom links and other course materials will be available on Canvas.
We look forward to an interesting and engaging course together!
