Welcome to the course "Swedish Politics and Society -Continuity and change" at Dalarna University

This course provides an overall perspective on the Swedish political system and what characterizes Swedish political culture. The course engages with Sweden‘s constitutional design, governance and decision-making and the central features of the Swedish administrative model. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity to discuss challenges and trends and how these affect the functioning and characteristics of the Swedish system in terms of democracy, efficiency and legitimacy.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • describe the Swedish political system and its historical emergence and development
  • describe for what characterises the Swedish political culture
  • examine characteristics of the Swedish political system in the light of social development and current political issues.
