Welcome to The Ideal of Human Rights: Historical, Philosophical and Political Aspects RK2034 (7.5 Credits) at Dalarna University!

You are now visiting the course specific information on our learning management platform – we call this the “course room”.

The course will be taught entirely online (net-based) via Zoom.

Start of the Course

The Course Introduction is  on Tuesday 1st September 15:00-16:00 at the following Zoom-link:

https://du-se.zoom.us/j/66878099152

It is an opportunity for you to introduce yourselves and ask questions about the course. It will not be recorded, but I will upload my power-point presentation with information afterwards.

Even if you are unable to attend the Course Introduction, you must introduce yourself in the Discussion created for that purpose.

Study Format

The course consists of 4 Modules with 1-2 lectures and 1 seminar in each module.  It concludes with a Final Paper. All lectures are pre-recorded and can be found in each respective Module here on Canvas.

We view group work as an important resource in all course activities. Hence, active participation in the Seminars, via Zoom, is mandatory. Before each seminar you are required to submit a written assignment.

If you miss a seminar, you must make an additional compensatory assignment.

The first seminar will be on Friday 11 Sept 09:00-10:30.

Deadline for the submission of the seminar assignment is Thursday 10 Sept. 13:00. I am responsible for that seminar, so feel free to contact me about that seminar if you have any queries.

Prepare for Your Studies.

Below you can find the Reading list. On the Schedule you can find the precise reading instructions for each Module.

You will need all the 3 books on the Reading list (Hayden in particular) for the First Module.

If you continue with the course “Human Rights and the Critique of its Normative Foundation, Application and Universalization” (RK2038) which starts in November you will find that we use (other) chapters from the books by Hayden (ed.) and Nash on that course as well. Hence it might be a good idea to buy these books. They are also available in physical form (unfortunately not as e-books) at Dalarna University Library.

IMPORTANT

It is important that you read the information on our Student web - Dalarna University (du.se) to find out more about your upcoming studies and practical issues.
