Welcome to English 1 at Dalarna University!
Please read the information below.
This Canvas room is for the course called English 1. All information about the course will be posted in this room. Most of the course materials will also be posted in this room.
Please read the text below very carefully.
Is it OK if I am reading this on my smartphone?
No. Please do not access Canvas through a smartphone. It is possible, but it is not convenient, and it can make things confusing and difficult. Always use your laptop/desktop to access Canvas, Zoom or any other online learning tools. More generally, do not do any of your course work on a smartphone. Use your laptop/desktop instead.
How many Canvas rooms do I need to have access to?
For English 1, you only need access to this Canvas room.
English 1 is a 30-credit course. How many parts does it have, and what are those parts?
Ultimately, English 1 is one course. However, it can be helpful to think of it as a set of several smaller subcourses:
Introduction to Academic English (6 credits)
Literature in English (12 credits)
Grammar (7.5 credits)
Exploring Language (3 credits)
Phonetics (1.5 credits)
Introduction to Academic English, Literature in English, and Grammar start during week 36 and week 37. In other words, they run parallel to each other right from the beginning.
The module called Exploring Language starts in week 39. The module called Phonetics starts in week 48.
