Start of the Course

The introduction to English II is on 2 September14.00-15.00, in the Zoom room we use for the Literature Course: https://du-se.zoom.us/j/222005557

English II consists of two Courses: The History of British and American Literature and Ideas, and Introduction to English Linguistics. Under "Modules" to the left you will find two modules, one for Literature, and one for Linguistics. Below, you will see the information to each course.

The History of British and American Literature and Ideas

The course begins with the first lecture, Friday Sept 4, 10-12. We have also planned a short lecture on reading poetry, also Friday Sept 4, 13-14. After that we will meet online Mondays 8:30-10 or 10:30-12 for seminars, and Tuesdays 8:30-10 for lectures, until week 46, when the first module ends. Please sign up for one of the two groups here to the left, under "People".

An important document here at the beginning of the course is the Course Guide that we will use autumn term 2026, telling you what to read for when and what to prepare. If you want to start your reading now, the first text to study will be The Tempest, and the second The Scarlet Letter. You can see which other texts to get hold of.  (Please note, Conrad´s Heart of Darkness can be found in the Norton Anthology, as well as The Tempest in some editions of the Nortons, which we strongly recommend you buy, thus you won't need to buy that book separately. However, students on the Teacher Program do not need to read Heart of Darkness.)

Books to get hold of

I have created a Q&A Thread that you can use for questions concerning the course, please find it under Discussions and Forums in the Literature Module. For technical questions and questions related to Learn, please use the links here to the right, or contact support.

Autumn 2026 we will use the program Zoom for this course. If you are new to it, please go here and read more and install the software:  https://www.du.se/en/study-at-du/study-tools2/zoom/

The Zoom room that will be used for all meetings, seminars and lectures online in the literature course is the following:  https://du-se.zoom.us/j/222005557.
