In-depth studies of African literary works in Portuguese. A number of representative contemporary literary works from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé e Príncipe are studied and contextualized in the specific aesthetic, cultural and political discussions that have engaged the African authors. Through the theoretical texts we deepen the understanding of some central topics and themes, such as Modernism, Hybridity and Nationality.

You will improve your skills in these areas:

  • identify and formulate key issues in a selection of works in the African
    literature written in Portuguese.
  • analyse and interpret literary works and critically examine their content in
their historical socio-political and cultural context
  • in writing and orally communicate their own and others’ literary
interpretations with very good mastery of the Portuguese language.
