Course syllabus
Welcome to Implementation Research in Health and Welfare Practice at Dalarna University
The general aim of the course is to provide you with knowledge of theoretical frameworks, designs, methods, and factors that are important for research on the implementation of evidence‑based methods, practices, and policy.
The course is delivered entirely online. The lectures will be available as recordings in the Canvas course room, allowing you to view them at a time that suits you. Canvas is our learning platform, where you will also submit your assignments and give and receive written feedback from your fellow students. Information about any changes or updates will also be posted there.
Course Introduction and Introduction to Implementation Research
30 March, 13:00–16:00 via Zoom
The course includes six mandatory seminars with online attendance via Zoom. In addition, optional sessions with opportunities to ask questions will be offered on six occasions throughout the course.
Mandatory seminars:
- 1 April: 09:00–11:30
- 9 April: 09:00–11:30
- 24 April: 13:00–15:30
- 4 May: 13:00–15:30
- 13 May: 09:00–12:00
Mandatory final seminar:
- 27 or 28 May: 08:30–16:00 (group assignments will be announced later)

Language
The course is taught online. Instruction is in English, and written examinations are in English unless stated otherwise.
Course Structure
The course is divided into four modules. Each module includes:
- Course literature (course book + supplementary articles and texts)
- Lectures
- Written assignments
- Seminars (six seminars distributed across the four modules)
Your Work During the Course
The course takes a broad approach to implementation research and addresses the implementation of evidence‑based methods, practices, and policy in the health and welfare sector. The course will highlight different theoretical frameworks and factors that are important for implementing evidence‑based methods, practices, and policy. You will apply your knowledge by formulating research questions relevant to your dissertation work, and by designing and presenting a theoretically grounded study protocol.
