Course syllabus
Welcome to Statistics for Economists (GNA3D9) at Dalarna University!
Course Content
The course introduces fundamental principles and methods in statistics, with applications in business administration and economics. The content includes graphical and numerical descriptive methods, basic probability theory, discrete and continuous probability distributions, sampling distributions, point estimates, confidence intervals, and parametric hypothesis testing. The course also covers methods for data collection. Additionally, it includes analysis of relationships between variables, such as correlation and simple linear regression, as well as the presentation of results. Statistical analyses are performed using relevant software, and the results are interpreted and presented in writing.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- use descriptive statistics
- perform basic calculations of event probabilities and handle some common probability distributions
- conduct statistical inference
- interpret data outputs from statistical analysis.
Assessment
The course is assessed by:
- Written exam, 6 credits (U–VG)
- Written assignment, 1.5 credits (U–G)
Grades
Grades are reported as follows:
