Welcome to "The Contemporary Coming-of-Age Novel in English: Female, Ethnic and Ageing Perspectives" at Dalarna University

This course will be taught entirely online, with a combination of pre-seminar forum discussions and real-time online seminars. Real-time online seminars will be held on Tuesdays, 10.30-12.00 (only even weeks, starting in week 4).  Seminars are based on group discussions and analyses of the set primary and secondary texts. Some secondary material will sometimes be made available on our learning platform, and Zoom will be used for digital meetings (https://du-se.zoom.us/j/295640580Links to an external site.).

When you take this course, you will study the following:

• Origins and main features of the traditional Bildungsroman
• Rewritings of the Bildungsroman from three different theoretical perspectives: feminist, postcolonial/ethnic and ageing studies
   
  You will improve your skills in these areas:
• Literary analysis and theoretically informed literary criticism.
• Writing a reflective, scholarly final literature essay.
• Collaborative learning through group discussions.
• Providing constructive criticism. 
• Critical skills.
