Welcome to "Literature and Gender: Literary Theory and Criticism" at Dalarna University

This course includes studies of fiction from different continents, with focus on gender-theoretical questions, from both an ideological-critical as well as an aesthetical perspective. The course highlights aspects of literary theories and methods relating to gender that problematize gender, sexuality, identity and power as well as the conditions for women‘s creation and aesthetics.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- use literary gender theory and concepts such as gender, sexuality, identity and power by placing these in a wider cultural, social and aesthetic context
- explain their own interpretations and analyses of literary works and texts on literary criticism and literary theory
- provide constructive and critical feedback on the work of other students
- from a critical perspective on power relations, evaluate and assess representations of contemporary events using gender theory.
