Welcome to The Ideal of Human Rights: Historical, Philosophical and Political Aspects RK2034 (7.5 Credits) at Dalarna University!

You are now visiting the course specific information on our learning management platform – we call this the “course room”.

The course will be taught entirely online (net-based) via Zoom. You can find the schedule here: Schedule The Ideal of Human Rights.pdf

Start of the Course

The Course Introduction is Wednesday 3rd September 9:30-10:30 at the following Zoom-link:

https://du-se.zoom.us/j/61133626463

It is an opportunity for you to introduce yourselves and ask questions about the course. It will not be recorded, but I will upload my power-point presentation with information.

Even if you are unable to attend the Course Introduction, you must introduce yourself in the Discussion created for that purpose.

Study Format

The course consists of 4 Modules with lectures and seminars. There is one Seminar for each Module.

The course concludes with a Final Paper. All lectures are pre-recorded and can be found in each respective Module.

We view group work as an important resource in all course activities. Hence, active participation in the Seminars, via Zoom, is mandatory. Before each seminar you are required to submit a written assignment.

If you miss a seminar, you must make an additional compensatory assignment.

The first seminar will be on Friday 12th Sept 09:00-10:30. Deadline for the submission of the seminar assignment is Thur. 11 Sept. 13:00.

Prepare for Your Studies.

You will also find your Schedule and a list of the books that you will need to get. You will need all the 3 books listed (Hayden in particular) for the First Module.

If you continue with the course “Human Rights and the Critique of its Normative Foundation, Application and Universalization” (RK2038) which starts in November you will find that we use (other) chapters from Hayden and Nash on that course as well. Hence it might be a good idea to buy these books.
