Course syllabus
Welcome to "Communication in the Workplace: Interculturality and Inclusion" at Dalarna University
All the lessons in this course will be taught online. The material for the course, and information about readings and other preparatory work will be made available on Canvas, our learning platform, and Zoom will be used for all the seminars (digital meetings). The seminars will take place on Mondays from 15-16:30 hrs.
When you take this course, you will gain insights into different perspectives on how communication and different communication techniques can promote an inclusive work environment and strengthen the organization itself. The course consists of three parts:
Part 1: Introduction
Part 2: Internship
Part 3: Theoretical Perspectives
You will improve your skills in these areas:
- identify, use and assess communication styles and techniques used in professional settings
- discuss how different methods of communication are context-sensitive and have different effects on, for example, inclusion
- use concepts and theoretical perspectives to identify relevant areas for improved communication in a workplace setting
- critically reflect on the role different approaches to communication have at the workplace based on relevant theories.
We hope you engage in inspiring, interesting, and challenging discussions with your teachers and fellow students. As with all courses at Dalarna University, this course has a strong foundation in theory and research.
An important feature in the design of the course is that it connects theory with practice. Based on your internships you will be able to explore and share experiences and practices with the teachers and fellow students.
