Welcome to "Introduction to Theories and Methodologies of Literary Criticism" at Dalarna University

Welcome to the course Literature and Theory (GEN3DH/GEN28Q/EN2049). It is intended primarily for students taking English III: Focus on Literature, English III for Teacher Students for Upper Secondary School, and students taking this as a free-standing course.

Along with reading tasks and written assignments, the course is primarily taught through real-time, online seminars. Seminars for this course take place between weeks 36 and 3, but only in odd weeks, on Wednesdays (there may be exceptions), 08.30-10.30, beginning with an online Course Introduction in Week 36, Wednesday, 3 September, 08.30-10.30 (https://du-se.zoom.us/s/64769124041). When you take this course, you will be studying the following:

  • a selection of representative theoretical schools, their key concepts, premises and associated methodological approaches
  • a selection of literary texts in English, which will be analysed using key theoretical concepts and adequate methodological procedures
