Course Handbook - GIK36Q COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

Welcome!

Welcome to the Collaborative Project course at Dalarna University! We are excited to have you join us. Throughout this course, you will gain experience with tools for project planning and facilitating collaboration.
This course is structured into two segments: "Planning and Theory" and "Project and Reflection." The "Planning and Theory" segment will start in week 36 and end week 40. During this segment, you will plan the project and complete the Continuous Examination (1.5 credits), which consists of 1.5 credits. You will also read six scientific papers on conflict management and transdisciplinary involvement, and participate in two out of three seminars as part of the Continuous Examination (3.5 credits).
Four of the six scientific papers on conflict management and transdisciplinary involvement are listed in the course literature. The fifth and sixth paper, shall be counted as equally important and part of "Ytterligare litteratur på vetenskaplig nivå kan tillkomma, ca 200 sidor...", listed in the course literature. The fifth and sixth will be announced during the first week.
This course begins at a fast pace, leaving no room for procrastination. It is entirely based on collaboration, and successful completion requires active participation. If you fall behind for any reason, it will be very challenging to catch up. It is essential to stay engaged and maintain the same pace as your fellow students and the course. Collaboration and communication is key.
Two teachers lead this course: Arend Hintze (Professor of Microdata Analysis) and Alexander Karlsson. Arend Hintze will be the contact person and examiner for the three seminars that make up the Continuous Examination (3.5 credits). Alexander will be responsible for the Continuous Examination (1.5 credits) and the Project (10 credits).
Remember to check the announcements regularly to stay updated on all activities and requirements. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us through the communication channels provided at the bottom of this page. See Contact .
Let's make this a productive and enjoyable learning experience. Welcome aboard, and let's get started with the screen recorded Course Room Introduction .
I have divided the class into three project groups and selected a project leader for each group. I have informed the project leaders of that selection and confirmed that they are comfortable with the role. The project leaders are Felix, Lovisa Sandell and Lucas. The other students have already been assigned to their respective group but it won't bee seen in canvas before the introduction.

EXAMINATION TASKS

To read the instructions or get to files related to each task, click on the link with purple background and white text at the top of each task in the "Task" column below.
Many tasks will be complete through preparation and participation. Three have to be submitted. Click on the link with the green background to submit. The text with grey background aren't links since those tasks only need your preparation and participation to be completed.
Each task includes additional descriptors (listed in the "Task" column) to help you anticipate its difficulty and whether it should be completed individually, in groups, or both. The grading schema and grading type are the same for all tasks: they are manually graded by the teachers and assessed on a pass/fail basis (U or G).
Examination tasks must be fully adhered to for approval, unless otherwise stated.

POLICIES

Collaboration Policies

Collaboration is a key component of this course. You will participate in project groups where all members are equally responsible for fostering teamwork and collective problem-solving skills. Detailed rules on how to collaborate with your peers are provided below:
  • Work distribution among students in a group or pair must be equitable.
  • If any member feels they are falling behind despite active participation, the group must pause and ensure that this individual attains the same level of understanding as the rest.
  • No single individual should dominate or carry out the majority of the work alone.
  • No one should rely on others to do their share of the work.
  • The project coordinator (project leader) has veto power.

Study Policies

The following study policies are established to guide students in their academic journey throughout this course. These policies are designed to ensure that students maintain a high level of personal responsibility and preparedness, both individually and within group settings:
  • Significant portions of this course demand that students take personal responsibility for their learning, both individually and as part of a group.
  • Students are expected to complete readings and prepare according to instructions before scheduled exam sessions, both individually and within group work.
  • Clarity and frequency in communication are as much the student's responsibility as the teacher's.

Material Importance Policy

Some students may make incorrect assumptions regarding the course material. Therefore, the text below is here to clarify:
  • There isn't a lot of course material or lectures. The whole idea of this course is that your groups delve into the problem and use the teacher as your supervisor throughout the tasks.

Conflicting Information Policy

If there is conflicting information, follow this priority order:
  1. Course Room Announcements
  2. TimeEdit
  3. Course Handbook in the Course Room
