Welcome to Economic Development in Africa, one of the Optional Courses within the African Studies Masters Programme at Dalarna University. It is a literature/reading course which means that it can be taken online and does not require any teaching and physical presence at Dalarna University in Falun, Sweden. The course spans from January 20 to February 22, 2025, with a time frame that may be extended if first negotiated with the course supervisor.  Nonetheless, the final deadline for submitting examination papers is Friday, June 6 at noon (see dropbox under "Modules"). The course literature focuses on social and economic conditions that have characterized Africa in recent decades within a global context. After consultation with the course supervisor, the reading list may be modified in line with the student’s individual research interest and plans for a forthcoming African Studies MA thesis. Altogether, however, the literature chosen should amount to not less than 1500 pages. For further details, see the Course Handbook, under Modules.
