Welcome to "Theory and Research Methods" at Dalarna University

The aim of this course is to provide students with the theoretical and practical tools necessary for them to understand and perform scientific research.

In the first part of the course, you will learn about various research approaches and research philosophies and their link to research strategies, as well as about research ethics. You will be guided into the research process including research problem formulation and choice and design of appropriate research methodology, and different methods of data analysis. The course concludes with the preparation of research proposals for a Master’s Thesis in Tourism Studies.

As soon as the course starts you will be asked to start formulating a research (which could develop to your thesis) topic. In case you have not started thinking about it already, I would strongly advise you to do so.
