Welcome to Statistics for Economists (GNA2RY) at Dalarna University!
Course Content
The course content presents an understanding of the basic statistical methods that are applied in the fields of business administration and economics. The content includes how various forms of data collection and analysis are carried out and presented. The focus is on graphic and numerical descriptive methods, basic probability theory, discrete and continuous probability distributions, sample distributions, point estimates and confidence intervals as well as parametric hypothesis testing. Analysis also includes relationships between variables, correlation, and simple linear regression. Statistical analyses are performed using relevant software. The results obtained are interpreted and presented in written form.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Use descriptive economic statistics
- Calculate simple probabilities and handle several common probability Distributions
- Conduct statistical inference
- Interpret outputs from regression analysis
- Use statistical software as a resource
- Apply statistics terminology and perform statistical analyses that are presented in written form.

Lectures and computer labs.
Assessment
The course is assessed by a written exam, worth 6 credits (U-VG), and a written assignment, worth 1.5 credits (U-G).
