Welcome to "AJP2AG Practical Translation" at Dalarna University
VT25 schedule can be found in the Announcement section.
This course is offered online, via the Canvas learning platform and Zoom seminars (the link to the zoom room is in the course guideline module).
In this course, you will study some important concepts of translation theory. You also practice analyzing styles of Japanese language, including different registers and narratives, in order to practice using translation techniques that we studied in the Japanese IV: Introduction to Translation course.
Minimum attendance of 80% of the classes is required, with functioning camera and microphone to pass the course. Apart from the assignments and attendance, you have two exams at the end of the course (theory exam and translation exam).
The course has 8 classes. Each class focuses on a different aspect of translation and its procedure - text analysis, documentation, cultural references, etc.
Before each class, you are given reading materials which can consist of book chapters and/or academic articles. Before the class, you are required to hand in assignments (normally one theory assignment based on your reading and one translation). In order to pass the course, you are required to hand in and pass all the assignments, and attend at least 80% of the classes making active participation.
