Welcome to Introduction to Swedish Culture, etc. at Dalarna University

Welcome to this course especially intended for international students at Dalarna University! The objective is to introduce students to some formative aspects of Swedish Culture and Society, with a specific focus on the development during the last two hundred years. Key concepts are closely related to internal dynamics and external pressures. Combined internal and external forces that produced the characteristics of Swedish culture and society have continued to shape the development of the social and cultural landscape in Sweden. Questions of identity, multiple identities, life histories and experiences, and the growth of a multicultural environment will be given attention. Swedish immigration policies and the fate of second- generation immigrants will be discussed as well as the image Swedes have of themselves and of their country through history and the present.
