Welcome to "Grundläggande vetenskaplig metod" at Dalarna University
Welcome to the Introductory Scientific Method course, an essential foundation for any aspiring coach aiming to make informed decisions and inspire excellence. This course is designed to deepen your understanding of what science is, exploring various perspectives and the ways in which scientific inquiry shapes our understanding of training, performance, and athlete health. You’ll develop critical skills in searching, reading, and analysing scientific papers, along with essential tools for citing and building on research—all of which are key to staying informed in a rapidly advancing field like coaching science.
The course takes place at Campus Falun and most of your lessons will take place on site, although on some occasions meetings will be digital via Zoom. The first week is packed with core learning activities, setting you up with the tools you’ll need to work independently over the vacation period. Alongside these skills, we’ve curated diverse readings to broaden your perspective, provoke curiosity, and inspire you to think outside the box. By the end, you’ll be prepared not only to excel in the rest of the programme, but to apply principles of scientific method in meaningfully in ways that can make a real difference in your future careers.
SCHEDULE: Under the 'Modules' tab you can find a master schedule for the course. Any updates will be announced through the Announcements section. You will also find the supporting reading guide.
TEXTS: Most of the course texts are available online. The Swedish textbook, Olsson, H., & Sörensen, S. (2021), is not, but the library has hard copies and new reprints/secondhand copies are available via online bookshops. More details about the texts and textbooks will be shared during the course introduction.
