Campus Borlänge

Welcome to "GJP23S, Japanese I: Language Proficiency (100%)" at Dalarna University

This course is the second half of the Japanese I course. The course is suitable for beginner-level students who have studied basic Japanese and can use everyday expressions to make simple interactions in Japanese. Students are expected to know basic conjugation patterns for verbs and adjectives and construct sentences in ます-form, and to be able to read and write hiragana, katakana, and about 50 kanji.

Forms of study

You will have seminars about twice a week. Students are expected to study materials beforehand and be ready to actively attend the seminars. The seminar will be carried out in small groups so that the students will get many opportunities to use the language. You will also work in groups with the other students outside class to get more speaking practice.

There is no physical meeting on campus, but the course requires your active participation in the web-based seminars via Zoom. A good Internet connection, functional headset and web camera are required for the seminars. We recommend to use a cable (not wireless) connection. Tablets and smart phones are not recommended as a tool to attend lessons since you may have problem to see materials and attend seminars actively in Zoom. You are also going need to print out worksheets and submit them in a digital format (PDF).

Examination

The grade of this course is determined based on regular assignments, online quizzes, group work, and active participation in class. There will be  a final examination at the end of the course.

To pass the course, you are expected to:

  • participate actively in class (80% attendance is required)
  • do all the assignments and pass them
  • take part in all group work
  • pass the final examination
