Welcome to International Economics (NA1030) at Dalarna University!

Course Content

This course examines the causes and effects of international trade within the framework of different theories on the topic. Specifically, the concept of comparative advantages will be introduced and explained. Different types of trade barriers such as tariffs, quotas and other protectionist measures, and their effects are discussed and analyzed. The significance of international interest rate dependence and the role of the central bank are explained. The basic aspects of conducting economic policy in an open economy are described and analyzed.

Learning Outcomes

The main goal of the course is to provide the student with a basic knowledge of economic theories of the world economy.

Assessment

The learning outcomes are assessed by a written final exam, equivalent to 6 hp (U-VG), and a mid-term exam, equivalent to 1.5 hp (U-G).

Schedule

The course starts in Week 23 and ends in Week 32.

Since NA1030 is a distance course, we will not have online or physical meetings. This means, you will not attend live lectures online in Canvas or via Zoom.  I will upload recorded lectures in the course room so that you can watch them any time you want. If you click on “Modules” in the course menu on the left, you will find the recorded lectures in the folder “Recorded Lectures”.
