Welcome to "Installation of Photovoltaic Systems Course" at Dalarna University
Why?To install photovoltaic systems in a professional manner and commission them includes a lot of profound knowledge as well as operation and maintenance. As a solar engineer you are often expected to lead photovoltaic installations projects, guide installation crews, or get invited for photovoltaic system inspections. Even during the design process, it gets handy to know typical failures so you can plan how to avoid them with a good documentation. Operation and maintenance planning will give you an advantage over your competitors.

What?
The course covers assembly, installation, and commissioning of photovoltaic systems, as well as operation, maintenance and demonstration of typical failures in photovoltaic systems.
You will put your knowledge into practice by installing a photovoltaic system onto a tile roof and a flat roof. You will also experience troubleshooting and commissioning on the same system. The most common mistakes during installations are reviewed, and you are shown how to make installations secure.
How?
The course is given with prerecorded lectures, online question sessions and an on-campus installation project of roof top photovoltaic system (Installation project, 1 credit). Online question sessions are scheduled in TimeEdit. The detailed course guide as follows is showing what should be done during which phase of the course. You are expected to attend and prepare for all the obligatory question sessions (active participation at seminars, 1 credit). The course will be examined with an oral exam at the end of the course, 3 credits. The oral examination consists of a 20 min discussion with the teachers where you will be asked questions about the content of the entire course.
How to complete the course
Active participation in the question session, installation project and the oral examination is needed to pass this course. The final grade is based on the oral examination and is given in the Swedish grading system VG (Very good), G (pass) and U (fail). For the online meetings, the Zoom meeting room linked in Learn will be used. The participants are expected to have good audio and video quality especially during the online examination.
Practical Installation
The practical installation will take place on the roof of Högskolan Dalarna. You will be grouped in teams of 4 students. The detailed schedule will be decided during one of the question sessions. If you have your own working clothes, gloves, and protective working boots you are welcome to bring them to the practical installation. If not, we will provide you with gloves, and protective boots.
Course Evaluation
As you might know we are always open to improvements. Therefore, we want to know how you experienced the learning and we want to collect your feedback during an online session with polling or discussion. In this way we will gradually be able to improve the course. Please make notes about things to improve but also about positive things, so we get a good picture on what changes to make.
