Course syllabus
In this course, you will train and develop your ability to write academic texts. The different assignments will also give you an opportunity to deepen your knowledge within a specific research field (of your own choice) in intercultural studies with a focus on literature. Being accepted to this course, you will have some experience of academic writing already, so by finishing the assignments of this course, you will deepen and expand your competences, rather than learn something completely new.
The art of writing academic texts, and other, can only be learned by actual practice, and most of the assignments in this course consist of practical exercises, which you will present and discuss in the seminars. The first seminar, however, will be based on a reading of Umberto Eco’s classical text on academic writing, which will help you to reflect on the nature of this kind of writing, especially within the humanities.
Examination
All the activities in this course are part of the examination. You will submit three written assignments, a description of a research field, a critical discussion of a theoretical framework, and a short academic paper, preferably tying together the previous assignments. All of these will be presented and discussed in the seminars. Instructions for the different assignments and seminars will be published in the modules, as the course proceeds.
