In each room, you will find teaching material and other information about that specific course. You will also find your schedule in your course room and a list of the books that you should buy before your course starts. These you can buy at a book supplier.

After you register in your course, you will have full access to our learning platform Canvas.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course students will be able to:

  • identify and problematize, both orally and in writing, various cultural aspects and social phenomena in Portuguese-speaking regions
  • reflect on the geographical spread of the Portuguese language in the world and the way in which it has led to various linguistic and cultural encounters in different historical and socio-cultural contexts
  • seek, gather, systematize and organize information and critically interpret and communicate relevant information in Portuguese.

Course Content

The course includes a selection of film and texts which illustrate various aspects of culture and society in multilingual and multicultural regions where the Portuguese language has official status. The material is studied and analyzed through a perspective that emphasizes cultural encounters and the construction of identities, particularly in contemporary historical and socio-cultural contexts. Socio-cultural aspects are discussed, orally and in writing with the aim of providing the student with a good basis for understanding Portuguese-speaking environments from a transcultural perspective.
