Welcome to
Implementing Strategies for Quality Improvements in Health Care Settings
at Dalarna University
The lessons in this course will be taught at Campus Falun and online. Recorded and reading material will be available on our learning platform, and Zoom will be used for digital meetings. After taking this "Quality Improvements in Health care Settings" course, you have prepared for the ASR25U course elaborating on leadership and management within healthcare systems, and the last course in the program ASR25T "Healthcare System Research in Low-, Middle-, and High-Income Countries".
When you take this course, you will work individually and in pairs/groups. In Module 1, you will focus on a country's healthcare system and its strengths. In Module 2, you will focus on the weaknesses of the country's healthcare system, which will be presented orally with PowerPoint in seminars. In Modules 1 and 2, you will use a questionnaire derived from a framework focused on SRPH/midwifery to get an overview of the country you focus on. In Module 3, you will write an individual policy brief on strategies for quality improvements based on the weaknesses you identified in Module 2 (learning objectives 1 and 3), and propose a project. Here, you will use the "Plan-Do-Study-Act" concept as a strategy for implementing the quality improvement work you propose based on your policy brief. You will argue for the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative and quantitative methods for following up on the improvement project you suggest. In the individual assignment, you will demonstrate scientific rigor in analysis and written text (learning objectives 2 and 4). We use the "flipped classroom" approach with oral presentations and discussions will follow the presentations. The last seminar will focus on a critical review of each other's work.
