Welcome to Languages, Literature and Culture: Research Methodology and Academic Writing (GPR2Z2) at Dalarna University!

Registration to the course starts on week 34.

Your course will be taught as usual, entirely online (net-based).

Throughout your studies, you will use the platform Canvas. Your program is made up of several courses, and every course has its own course room. In each room, you will find teaching material and other information about that specific course. You will also find your schedule in your course room and a list of the books that you should buy before your course starts. These you can buy at a book supplier.
After you register in your course, you will have full access to our learning platform Canvas.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe and critically compare basic research methodology in literary, cultural and linguistic studies
- formulate a project description with a relevant research question, a clearly expressed theoretical approach and a methodological discussion for a feasible research project related to literary, cultural or linguistic studies
- write different types of academic texts
- analyse and critically evaluate the content, disposition and argumentation in scientific texts
- discuss and relate to research ethical issues
- provide constructive criticism on the texts of fellow students and respond objectively to the criticism of others.
Course Content
In the course, students read and analyse various examples of scientific studies in literature, culture and linguistics. Based on these examples, the students carry out a comparative analysis of a research question, theory, method, argumentation and disposition. Each student formulates an idea for a research project within one of the languages, and writes a detailed project description. Furthermore, students write reviews and will in this way practice their ability to discuss the contents of scientific text. Students read and discuss each other‘s texts.
