Welcome to Introduction to Academic English at Dalarna University!
This course is taught on campus in Falun and online.
Below you can find information regarding the course schedule. There is, however, one question we need to address first.
Is it OK that I am reading this on my smartphone?
No. Please do not access Canvas through a smartphone. It is possible, but it is not convenient, and it can make things confusing and difficult. Always use your laptop/desktop to access Canvas, Zoom or any other online learning tools. More generally, you should not do any of your course work on a smartphone. Use your laptop/desktop instead.
How many modules does the course have?
Introduction to Academic English has three modules:
- Mechanics, genre, register (2 credits)
- Summarizing (2 credits)
- Finding and using secondary sources (2 credits)
You will receive a grade for each module as well as an overall grade for the course.

Note that the schedule is a Word document. It requires Office. If you do not have Office on your computer, use your student access to Office. To access Office, please click here (Swedish) or here (English). During the term, you will need Office for your assignments.
Where do I go during the first week of classes?
On 24 January, 13.00-14.00, there is a general introduction to English 1 in Falun. It is not compulsory, but it can be helpful if you have not studied with us before. The room is E152.
The first lecture of Introduction to Academic English is on 25 January, 13.15-15.00. It is compulsory, and it is online. The Zoom link is https://du-se.zoom.us/my/samtal133
The compulsory lecture on plagiarism is on 25 January, 16.00-17.00. The room is E151.
The first seminar of Introduction to Academic English is on 26 January, 10.00-12.00. It is compulsory, as are all the other seminars. The room is C337.
