Example

The question type "Inline Choice" is like a multiple-choice question, embedded in the text itself. Students can see the answer alternatives in a drop-down list and choose one of them. In the example below, there are two fields with drop-down lists in the same sentence. The fields are blank by default and the answer options are displayed when the students click the list. It is possible to add mathematics (LaTex), files, tables, links, PDFs, images and / or audio files to the question core.

Didactic perspective

An answer field can be placed at the beginning, middle or end of the question’s text. You can have more than one answer field in a question if you like. It is possible to set the order of the options in the drop-down list at random. Just as with other types of questions, it is important to be clear, only have one problem and to avoid negations in the question core. Please make sure the questions are formulated grammatically correct so that the answer alternatives don’t reveal the correct answer.

Learning support

For students who use screen readers to read the text, this question type can be difficult to handle, as the screen reader reads out the options from the drop-down list separately from the rest of the text. Students may therefore find it more difficult to understand how their answer options fit into the text. Consider using the "Text Entry" question type, which is better handled by screen readers.

Since the answer alternatives are formulated in advance, the same applies here as for the question type "Multiple Choice".

Alternative question types

Multiple Choice is more suitable if you have formulated the question core as a question.

Text Entry, works better for some students in need of learning support, for others, Essay or Text Area may work better.

You can change the correct answer by clicking on the white circle next to another answer alternative
Here you can select “Add feedback”. Your feedback will only be visible if you have notified the examination administration (tentamensadministration) making the feedback visible for the students
Click the cross next to an answer alternative to delete it
Click "Add Alternative" to create another answer alternative
Options: here you can set the points and choose whether the answer alternatives should be displayed in random order (the default setting is random order)
