Prerequisites/Requirements in Modules

Teachers can add what are termed "prerequisites" or "requirements" to modules. These help students to see what they need to do in the course and when . The teacher can also see how far students have progressed. Pages and tasks with module requirements receive a green checkmark when completed, which provides a clear checklist for students.

  • Prerequisites means that you must complete one or more modules before you can access the next module and/or that you are to progress through course content in a certain order.
  • Requirements may involve viewing or marking a page as finished; contributing a post; submitting an assignment; or receiving a certain number of points for the module to be completed.

How do I know if a module has prequisites?

If a module has prerequisites, you will see  a lock at the bottom right. To unlock the module, you need to complete the modules specified.

How do I see if modules have requirements?

When requirements have been set for the course content in a module, you will see a box with the text Complete all items and a circle on the far right. Under the title of each page or task, you can see what type of requirement has been set. In this case, the page should be marked as complete, and a post should be written in a discussion forum.

How will I know that I have completed all requirements?

When you have completed all requirements, the circle on the right shows a green tick. When you have completed all requirements for a module, the module is also marked with a green tick.

  • If you have not completed all the requirements in a module, a red circle with a red horizontal line will appear on the far right.
  • Assignments may require that you achieve a certain number of points, meaning they must be graded by the teacher before they are marked as completed in the module view (provided you have achieved the set number of points). While you wait for a grade, you will see a circle with an 'i'.

How do I "Mark as done"?

  • When you have met the requirements, the module view shows checked off.
  • To check off the requirement, click Mark as done, which appears at the top right when you feel you have completed the task or page. If you want to remove the checkmark, click again on the button now showing Done in green
