Groups - Find Your Group

Use the Groups Tab

Huvudmenyn i Canvasa med undermenyn grupper utfälld

If you are a student and can see  the Groups tab in the main menu on the left-hand side menu in Canvas, then this indicates that you are a member of the group. Click on the button to see which groups you belong to and then click on the group to access the groups section (more information on the groups section can be found at the bottom of this page).

If you click on All groups, you will get a list of available groups with the courses you are a part of:

Screenshot shows a list with the groups you are member of.

It is useful to see the associated courses as there can be multiple groups with the same name linked to different courses.

Groups via the Course Home Page

Screenshot shows links to your Course groups on the startpage.

If you belong to one or more groups, these will be visible under Course groups on the right-hand side of the course home page.

Group Area

Screenshot shows homepage when you are in the group area.

When you are in one of your groups, you will see the group name at the top of the page and the associated course on the left. When you are in a group, the course menu will change to show the tools available for that group. To leave the group area and return to the course home page, click on the name of the course at the top of the page or on Courses in the main menu on the left-hand side.

Here is a short description of what you can do in a group:

Announcements: Publish a message that everyone in the group can see.

Pages: Create a page that you can fill with text, pictures, films, links, etc.

People: See the members of the group.

Discussions: Create and participate in discussions in groups. Here you may also find assignments created by the teachers in the form of graded group discussions.

Files: Share files and documents with the other members of the group.
