1. Highlighting courses

You can highlight certain courses to be visible from your home page by clicking on Courses > All Courses and then clicking on the star to the left of the course names that you want to mark as favourite.

2. Switch between courses

Click on Courses to quickly switch between your courses. The courses that are visible are those that have been selected as favourites. If a course you are looking for is not in this list, you can find it under Courses > All Courses.

3. Groups

If you are a member of at least one group, then you will have access to the Groups tab. You can quickly go to one of your groups and switch between groups with the same tab. Click on Groups and then All Groups to see a list of which courses the groups belong to.

Click on the Courses tab to leave the Groups page and return to your course page.

4. Calendar

The calendar shows all date-specific events in your course.
You can filter (show or hide) events for a course by clicking the coloured box to the left of the course name (see picture).
At the top of the list is your personal calendar which only you can see.
Under that are all your course calendars and finally at the bottom are all your group calendars.
You can add an event to your personal calendar or to a group calendar.

5. Inbox

The inbox shows your personal messages from teachers and colleagues. You can send a message to anyone enrolled in one of your courses.

1. A blue dot shows that the message is unread.
2. A white tick in a black box shows that the message or conversation is marked.
3. To the right, you can see all your correspondence for messages or conversations that are marked.
4. Start a new message.
5. Respond to the last message in a conversation.
6. Respond to everyone in a message.
7. Move a message into the archive.
8. Delete a conversation.
9. Choose course, filter by inbox/sent/archive, and search.

6. Account

On the account page you can do the following:

Change or add a profile picture (click on profile and then on the round profile picture).
Add a private email address (click on settings and then on + email address).
Choose which notifications you want Canvas to send to you when something happens in your course (click on notifications and change the settings for the types of notifications you want to be sent to you).
See which files you have access to in all your courses, including your submissions and attachments (click on Files and browse through the respective folders).
Start your ePortfolio and choose whether you want it to be public or only available to some users (click on ePortfolios).

7. Keep up-to-date

In the right-hand column, there is a to-do list and a list of upcoming events. If you click on the three dots at the top right of the page (to the right of the dashboard and to the left of the DU logo), you can see a list of recent activities in your course.
